Feeding Protocol
Mossy Geckos Diet – Feeding Protocol
Mossy Geckos Diets are formulated to provide complete daily nutrition with balanced calcium, vitamins, and D3. This diet works for all life stages, but feeding frequency and supplementation should be adjusted based on age and breeding status.
Feeding the Diet
• Younger geckos: Offer the diet every day to every other day for steady growth.
• Adults: Feed every other day to every third day, with insect feedings in between.
• The diet can stay in the enclosure for one to two nights, depending on whether it dries out or gets debris in it.
Insects & Why They Matter
Even though the diet is complete, we strongly recommend offering gut-loaded, dusted insects at least once a week, or more often depending on species. Insects provide enrichment and natural variety that benefit overall health. We recommend Mossy Geckos Feeder Fuel Gel for gut-loading insects and Mossy Geckos Bone Boost with or without D3.
All insects should be:
• Gut-loaded before feeding (Feeder Fuel Gel recommended)
• Dusted with calcium (Bone Boost with or without D3) and or vitamins with calcium (Vitamin Volt) in rotation for variety
Supplementation
The standard diet supplies the nutrition most geckos need, but babies and breeding females often require extra support due to rapid growth or egg production.
Ways to safely supplement:
• Keep a small dish of calcium in the enclosure.
• Use calcium with D3 if you’re not using UVB.
• Use calcium without D3 if you are using UVB.
• Swap out the calcium dish once a week, and you can alternate between plain calcium and vitamin/calcium mixes for variety.
• Once a week to every other week, you can add extra vitamins and calcium directly to the diet by mixing 1-3% supplement into the water and mixing it up before adding the powder (2 parts water, then 1 part diet). We recommend Mossy Geckos Vitamin Volt for a high powered vitamin/calcium supplement.
Why Extra Calcium Isn’t Added to the Base Formula
Too much calcium can interfere with the absorption of other nutrients. For this reason, Mossy Geckos Diets are made with ideal calcium levels, and keepers can add more only when needed. If you see your geckos calcium sacks are full, you can cut back on the calcium as too much can also be harmful.
Variety
We believe variety plays an important role in long-term gecko health. Offering insects and rotating between different diets keeps geckos stimulated and encourages strong feeding responses.
